WHAT’S NEW  – Late April

(if you missed the two mid-April updates, you can read them HERE and HERE)

I wanted to squeeze in one more “What’s New” before April left – more news will come next month as it never stops coming and I have a backlog of news to share, as well.  First up…

UPDATES FROM YOU, FELLOW POP PIONEERS:

Keith KlingensmithFutureman Records label head, Pop Pioneer and talented power pop making artist, Keith Klingensmith has a new music project he’s making available for free download to everyone and ‘everyone’ includes you.  It features help from Mike Simmons, Eytan Mirsky and host of others.  Download the album and find out all the other Futureman Records reissue project at THIS LINK.

Pop Pioneer Tom Bickel has a great Spotify list to share with us all.    If you want to hunt artists (most of whom are on Spotify some not)…Tom has a very handy list(1,500 strong) to do it with on PC. Check it out at THIS LINK.

Pop Pioneer Tony Andersson passed along the news that Canadian popsters from the late 80s and 90s, GRAPES OF WRATH are active again and have a new album just out.  The news is at THIS LINK.

Pop Pioneer Kevin Greco sent along a video link to “We Didn’t Get Famous” The Story of the Southern Music Underground, 1978-1990 that features the stories of the dB’s, the Windbreakers, Pylon, Let’s Active and others.  I shared this originally back last Fall but it’s an important work so thanks to Kevin for giving us the opportunity to enjoy this documentary in case it was missed the first time around.  View it HERE.

Jeff Shelton, Pop Pioneer and leader of such key power pop bands as the Spinning Jennies, the Well Wishers, Hot Nun and a host of other projects, is taking on a new work to flex his artistic muscle.  It’s a novel.  In his words:  “It’s not Hemingway…it’s not Shakespeare.  It’s not going to change the world by any major  measure….but it’s a reasonably interesting and unique love story starting in the 1980s and  ending in present day. There’s plenty of music and pop culture references to please the Gen X palate, and the story is universal enough for basic, broad appeal.” – Check it out on Amazon HERE.  (it’s also available on at Lulu.com)

RECORD STORE DAY KICKED ASS LAST WEEKEND!

Record Store DayI picked up the reissues of the first three Aerosmith LPs(I want “Rocks” done properly!!) and, of course, the 2LP Big Star album, which I absolutely adore.   I made the trip down to Denver(one hour) to the very best store in the whole Western Mountain Region, TWIST & SHOUT.   If you ever come to Denver, you have to, HAVE TO, make a special trip to Twist & Shout.   WHen you do, make sure you ask for fellow Pop Pioneer, Brian Albright to help you out. He’s been a loyal employee there for over a decace and, of course, knows his power pop!   Anyway, Rolling Stone wrote about some of the numbers for this past Saturday’s activities at THIS LINK.

FOWInterview with Fountains of Wayne at THIS LINK.
