Early February
For some reason, it seems like we’re starting off the year with a big BANG and that’s there’s a lot going on. I’ve had a stream of steady, cool and good news this past week since my last update. So, as usual, I’m just gonna get right to it!
LITE ROCK TRIBUTE: I mentioned back in the fall about the announcement of a new tribute that is going to focus on 70s and 80s ‘lite rock’. Fellow Pop Pioneer, Andrew Curry is putting this project together and there will be a Kickstarter campaign kicking(sic) off in a week or two and I’ll keep you posted but the line up is AWESOME and Andrew just posted a great promotional video that you have to watch to get your curiosity up. JAMIE HOOVER of THE SPONGETONES does a ‘in studio’ jam session every month or so and he has a new coming up this coming Thursday, February 7th. YOu can watch it live and ask questions and make requests! CLICK HERE to get the details. Jamie’s web site is HERE
CORIN ASHLEY‘s new album is almost done(end of February) and it’s gonna be one of the year’s best. The dude just doesn’t know how to suck. Mentioned it last week quickly but gonna bring out in front of you all once again. He’s doing a PledgeMusic campaign(which is like IndieGoGo and Kickstarter – yes, these sites are profliferating like bunnies) at THIS LINK. Kay Hanley appears on it and just made a very touching post in homage to her friendship and respect for Corin at this post earlier today – HERE.

TIM LEE – as in Tim Lee, one half of the WINDBREAKERS(along w/ Bobby Suttliff) has a new project coming out later this month, which I just pre-ordered off of IndieGoGo(a site for musician-oriented projects along the lines of Kickstarter). It sounds like a jangled winner from what I’ve heard but I love supporting projects by ‘our own’ and if you are a fan of Tim Lee, the Winbreakers or jangle, in general, CLICK HERE to check out the project before it expires later this week.

HOT NUN, the the latest side-project from Jeff Shelton of the Well Wishers and Spinning Jennies is a big ‘ole slab of kick-ass power pop. Listen to it below and grab a song from the album that was posted in The Surprise Box last week at THIS LINK on the PGH site.
SONS OF GREAT DANE – this is a band that has REALLY impressed me over the past four years on the indie power pop scene. I recommend everything they’ve done and the band has a new project getting ready to which you can listen to below:
