Carlton Pride

LOCAL REGGAE MASTERS

Solace Meds on Smokey Street holds a party every 4/20. This year featured music by reggae masters Solpride, Carlton Pride’s band. Carlton Pride has a voice the sound of Montana and unerring rhythmic instincts. You can hear him from blocks away. Playing rapid-fire guitar, Solpride soared through “Rub a Dub,” “Meaning of Life,” “Judge Dredd,” “Concrete Jungle,” “Zoology,” and other originals. This is not somnolent reggae. This is music that takes over your nervous system and compels you to dance.

The band consists of T.J. Harris on drums, David Becher on bass, Ray Tait on keys, and Brandon Vigil on sax. Vigil lays in contrapuntal lines with one foot in jazz. Solpride will play Hodi’s May 12.
