ONE LIKE SON

Welcome to “The Modern Times”, fellow pop fans.  I’m pretty sure this is a first in the realm of power pop and it certainly is something not done but a few times in the rock ‘n roll world – to record an album(that does NOT suck) entirely on an Iphone.

Welcome, Pop Pioneer to the experience of ONE LIKE SON.

First, here’s a track to savor from the album “Start The Show”. (another one will appear in the February compilation later this week)

“Start The Show” is the appropriately titled lead-off track and it’s time for you to download and enjoy.

Here’s a video on the making of the album on the Iphone:

For their third record, Start the ShowOne Like Son decided to challenge themselves by recording it entirely on the iPhone. Using the GuitarJack and AmpKit LiNK hardware interface and apps such as AmpKit, FourTrack, Multitrack DAW, Pocket Organ, Moog’s Filtatron, ThumbJam and even Apple’s Garageband, the group produced an authentic rock record. Where most music composed on the iphone or ipad sounds like digital music, this record sounds like a live rock and roll band.Start the Show became available on January 17, 2012 and can be heard and purchased at http://onelikeson.bandcamp.com/album/start-the-show.

The guitar-heavy group recorded in hotel rooms, bedrooms and school classrooms… basically anywhere they could bring an iPhone and their instruments. Daniel Codella of Sonoma Wireworks says, “Out of all the E.P’s and “albums” I’ve come across that claim to be recorded entirely on the iPhone, One Like Son’s “Start the Show” is the most impressive by far. One Like Son have produced a full blown rock record on the iPhone that sounds like it was recorded using thousands of dollars’ worth of gear. One Like Son have really set the bar for what can be done with an inexpensive mobile recording setup. Bravo!”Stephen Poff compares the experience to the making of their first record Love Songs for the Apathetic, “we recorded on this cassette four track. It was a pretty top of the line at the time, but it was tedious and of course there were only 4 tracks to work with. Now I’m recording up to 24 tracks… and it’s on my iPhone!”One Like Son believes this to be the first rock record of this caliber recorded this way. “Previous bands have done a song or two on a small scale or have done mainly electronic music. But what we’ve done is much different than that, music that you wouldn’t imagine could be recorded this way.” Poff says. When asked about their apps role in the making of this album, Hamilton Feltman of Harmonic Dog said, “One Like Son has gone off the deep end and produced an entire rock album, on a phone, and it sounds… amazing! The quality is outstanding, the production, superb. Five years ago, who would have guessed this would happen. On. a. phone.”
