Thunder & Lightning – album
Never warmed much to Max Webster- too odd although Kim Mitchell’s debut EP is a classic…
Who is the lead guitarist for thin lizzy on cold sweat?
That would John Sykes, Mark – he was in a British metal band b/f he joined, Tygers Of Pang Tang and, in fact, played on their best, strongest albums before joining Lizzy (If you check on by this band, kick the tires on “Spellbound”). Sykes made his mark on metal further when he joined the semi-revamped Whitesnake, just as they went limp – and platinum in the late 80s.
He, also, played in a reformed Thin Lizzy in the 90s – but Lizzy w/o Phil is kinda weird. Still, the band that tours as Lizzy now supposedly kicks some big ‘ole butt still…Someone from the UK want to report?
Being Canadian i’m quite familiar with most of the Max Webster albums, and i must agree, there wasn’t a lot of great songs by them.I liked “Million Vacations”and “High class” is great as well.Speaking of Canadian bands,is anyone familiar with a band called Leydenzar? They put out a self-titled album in 1981 which is one of my alltime favs.Sadly it seems that it was never released on CD.I’ve only been able to find a couple of the songs on mp3.Their big hit was “Back street girl”.They put out a second album in 1984 which was also self-titled,but didn’t measure up to the first one.Thats the one thats been available on Amazon,go figure. The first record has a black cover with Japanese zeros. If you can find it grab it.
There really is nothing quite like Thin Lizzy!!!
> Lizzy w/o Phil is kinda weird
Agreed to a point but now that Gary Moore is gone, it’s really weirder. He was terrific leading the vocals, and that DVD of him at the Philo reunion where Eric Bell played is definitive.
I went to the 10 year reunion in Dublin and let me tell you, it wasn’t weird at all. Phil’s spirit was there and it was glorious!
I notice Doc Pomus co-wrote 3 of the songs on Le Chat Blue. What a genius. Maybe Doc would be a good feature for Not Pop someday, no?
My first memory of Pomus was a picture of him w/ Lou Reed around 1975 or so….an ad a ‘new’ Pomus record. I was around 13…the memory is clear, though…this cool looking, dangerous rocker, who I had just discovered the year before(I even bought and was hoodwinked w/ “Metal Machine Music” but that’s another story..) and..this old looking guy.
Honestly, I’m not overly familiar w/ Pomus but if you want to write up a story on him for the site, Mark…it will find a home!
