SPECIAL “JANGLE ON!” UPDATE

by Eric Sorensen

POP GEEK HEAVEN READERS!! I seldom plug a new release outside of my “Jangle On!” column, but Don Campbell’s two-CD “Kites To Fly: Celebrating the Music of Dan Fogelberg” merits pop/rock and soft rock music fans’ attention. Campbell, a Maine-based singer/songwriter, channels Dan Fogelberg better than any other contemporary artist. In fact, when I first heard Don Campbell perform at the Birchmere in the mid-90s (he opened for popular Maine folk trio Schooner Fare), Campbell sang “Spaghetti Westerns” – a song that reminded many in the audience of young Dan Fogelberg’s work. Campbell has given 23 Fogelberg songs reverential treatment on Kites To Fly, and the liner notes indicate the significant influence that Dan Fogelberg had on Campbell’s development as a singer/songwriter.

In fact, Campbell (who already has twelve CDs in his resume) shelved several original recording projects to complete this work of love. You can purchase this superb tribute disc set from Campbell’s website – www.doncampbellmusic.com or CD Baby at THIS LINK. If you are a Dan Fogelberg fan, this is a must for your music library. If you know a Dan Fogelberg fan, this will be the perfect gift or stocking stuffer for that person. Campbell plans to perform several Dan Fogelberg tribute shows in 2013, so check the schedule on his website for a show near you!
