Congratulations on becoming part of something cool, a solution for overwhelmed fans of power pop!

Why? This is where you’ll upload a picture of yourself(or some kind of picture). This is key because PGH is going to become very interactive later in the year and people seeing what fellow power pop geeks look like allows us to connect and make friends easier. (plus, you’ll hate the default “I Love Kenny G” picture that will display if you don’t – so it’s worth a minute of your time)
A few more things:
1. THE DASHBOARD – each time you log-in at PGH, you will be taken to “The Dashboard”. This is the command center tool that will allow you to navigate to everything at Pop Geek Heaven. Every week or so, you’ll receive an email to me that will tell you about what’s new at PGH and there will be different video that will appear there that will quickly go over what’s new as well.
2. THE SURPRISE BOX – near the top of The Dashboard, there’s an area called “The Surprise Box”. Every few days, I’ll be uploading a new song(or sometimes ‘songs’) that will be new, unreleased, rare, out of print or just flat-out cool songs for you to download and enjoy. However – and this is important – the songs in this area change every few days and they will not be archived for future downloading. So you should get into the habit of logging into PGH and checking out if The Surprise Box has been updated.
3. THE SHOUT BOX – this appears in two places: First, on the middle, right side of the home page Second, inside any area where you will be viewing any information on the site. The Shout Box allows you to IM(instant message) and chat in ‘real time’ with fellow power pop fans about anything: a new band you’ve just discovered, a cool new site you tripped across, gossip and share breaking news or…whatever. Just keep it clean, please – it’s part of the public face of the site.
Remember, this is ‘beta’ of Pop Geek Heaven so you are truly pioneers with making this work. It’s the first step, Version 1.0 of this experiment to deliver a more interesting, enriching experience for power pop fans – and be an invaluable resource for bands and labels to communicate directly with us.
As I mention in the video above, this is not my ‘day job’ and all this is FREE for us all to enjoy. Pop Geek Heaven may introduce a paid, premium option, at some point. For now, PGH is supported and under-written by sales at the Pop Geek Heaven store (www.popgeekheavenstore.com)so consider checking out the various projects that we’ll be developing here inside this community and purchasing something down the line. It will help keep this alive – very much so.
Last Thing: please feel contact me with any suggestions, feedback and to volunteer to help out with any particular skills you may have that will benefit the experience here. In particular, I’ll be always looking for help on the techie side of things. I’m not very techie-oriented – I get done but it sure takes me a lot longer than left-brain gifted folks!
