Old fans of Not Lame may recall seeing Michael Oliver‘s name 10 years or so ago, with a really solid power pop effort called “Go, Dog, Go!”, which has not been available in many years. After a long break, Oliver returns with a song for Pop Pioneers and the news of an upcoming album – which I have heard and can say that it will be a record many folks are gonna dig!

Michael Oliver releases Yin and Yanxiety after ten years, one graduate degree from Harvard Kennedy School, and a storied past with one of Western New York’s most beloved pop rock acts of the ‘90’s, Go, Dog. Go!
Yin and Yanxiety is a touchingly personal collection of intelligent pop and rock songs reminiscent of Matthew Sweet, Marshall Crenshaw, REM and even The Archies, all of whom Oliver counts as influences. It is an emotional meditation on the past, filled with beautifully crafted songs that glisten, glow, and grandly unfold; vocals lingering and lyrics resonating long after the songs have faded.

Thoroughly Enjoyed – Thank You Bruce (And Michael)
If this is not essential power pop I do not know what is!
Thank you!
This is a great song.
Indeed. And speaking of great songs, Rich, I recently heard Sleep In A Wigwam for the first time (after first reading about it in Shake Some Action a couple of years ago) and am amazed at what a great “batting average” you achieved with a slew of classic power pop “shoulda been” hits.
Great song – is this Jules Shear’s nom de plume?
